The iScreen system allows your pediatrician to screen for serious eye disorders so that vision problems can be treated early. Most young children are only seen by an eye care specialist when an obvious problem develops, and in many cases that's too late. If not detected at a treatable age, conditions like strabismus, amblyopia, and others can lead to permanent vision loss as well as poor school performance and behavious issues.

The American Academy of Pediatrics strongly recommends regular screenings for children.

American Academy of Pediatrics
Policy Statement:

"Vision screening and eye examination are vital for the detection of conditions that distort or suppress the normal visual image, which may lead to inadequate school performance or, at worst, blindness in children ... Vision screening should be performed for a child at the earliest age that is practical, because a small child rarely complains that one eye is not seeing properly."

iScreen detects the following conditions:

Hyperopia
Myopia
Amblyopia (and amblyopic conditions)
Strabismus
Cataracts (and other opacities)
Astigmatism

Does my child have to able to read to be iScreened?

No, in fact children as young as 3 months of age can be successfully screened. The process is non-invasive, requires no dilation drops, and takes only minutes to perform.
